Should I choose a 24" or 32" DTF film?

Choose a film width that matches the usable print width of your DTF printer and shaker.

Printers such as the Mimaki TxF300-75 or Mimaki TxF330-800 can print on either 24" or 32" film. 32" film is a great choice for getting the most bang for your buck when it comes to printing.

How can I identify the printable side of DTF film?

The printable side usually has a coated, slightly textured, or less glossy appearance compared with the uncoated carrier side. The exact appearance can vary by manufacturer.

Check the packaging or product instructions before loading the film. Printing on the wrong side can cause ink pooling, bleeding, or poor powder adhesion.

What makes a DTF film produce a softer hand?

A soft-hand DTF film is designed to release the printed image cleanly while helping minimize the heavy or plastic-like feel that can occur with some transfers. The finished hand also depends on ink volume, white ink coverage, powder application, design construction, and pressing technique.

Browse our DTF film collection or contact Blue Ridge for help selecting a film for soft-hand transfers.

Which is better: hot-peel or cold-peel DTF film?

The better option depends on your workflow. Hot-peel film is often preferred by shops that prioritize speed and high-volume production. Cold-peel film may be preferred when the operator wants a slower, more controlled release.

Print quality is also affected by the DTF ink, powder, curing settings, heat press, and garment. Testing each film with your complete process is the best way to determine which one works for your shop.

What is the difference between hot-peel and cold-peel DTF film?

Hot-peel or instant-peel film can usually be removed immediately or shortly after pressing. This can help improve production speed because the operator does not need to wait for every garment to cool.

Cold-peel film must cool before the carrier is removed. It can provide dependable release and detail, but it adds cooling time to the production process.

Always follow the pressing and peeling instructions supplied with the specific film rather than assuming all DTF films use the same process.

What is DTF film?

DTF film is a coated carrier film used to receive a printed DTF design before it is transferred to a garment. The printer deposits color and white ink onto the film, DTF transfer powder is applied to the wet ink, and the transfer is then cured and pressed onto the garment.
